Position Summary

The Southern Oregon University (SOU) Business program seeks an individual for a 1.0 FTE, tenure-track, 9-month, academic year position with a primary focus on Business Management Information Systems. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, in both traditional classroom and online format, and pursue scholarship, curriculum development and applied projects consistent with the priorities of the program, the Division of Business, Communication and the Environment (BCE), and the university’s mission and academic plan. Teaching assignments may include management information systems, data analytics, analysis and design, GIS in business, and databases/Microsoft Access. The candidate will also act as the coordinator for the certificate program in Management Information Systems. The typical teaching load for a tenure-track professor is three four-credit classes for each of three quarters (3-3-3), with opportunities for summer teaching possible. The successful candidate will also conduct scholarship, participate in service to the campus and community, and advise majors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Initial appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a terminal degree in the discipline taught or a closely related discipline (ABD candidates maybe considered).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Candidates should show desire and experience to teach, mentor, and support students from diverse background and learning styles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry experience in data analytics, business analysis, database management and/or software development.
• Industry experience or coursework in Tableau or other business intelligence, reporting, or data visualization platforms.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and SQL or other programming language(s).
• Experience teaching in a college or university setting in both traditional and online formats.
• Experience with academic advising of students.
• Experience or demonstrated ability to teach quantitative methods courses.
• Demonstrated maintenance of an active scholarly research program.

Physical Demands

Regular teaching activities may include standing, sitting, working at a computer, and lecturing.
